A Proud Member of the Community
Dufferin Aggregates is a major local employer and a proud member of the community. We strive to continuously improve our environmental performance, provide meaningful contributions to the communities we operate in and contribute to a more sustainable built environment through our suite of sustainable solutions.
In our Communities
We have a long-term commitment to our neighbours and have built a solid reputation for being a responsible corporate citizen. We continuously work alongside local communities on initiatives related to education and training, sustainable community development and improvements in local infrastructure. This dedication is reflected in our diverse corporate social responsibility efforts across Canada. Our plants and quarries are visited annually by thousands of school children and local residents for open houses, tree plantings and other educational activities.

Active Rehabilitation
Dufferin Aggregates is committed to the responsible stewardship of the natural environment; actively seeking opportunities to create diversified and connected natural systems. Our progressive and award winning rehabilitation efforts are an ongoing activity at all of our sites, to recreate landforms for eventual uses such as conservation, recreation and agriculture. In 2016, there were approximately 7,000 trees planted at Dufferin Aggregates sites.
In 2017, as part of Earth Day events at the Acton, Milton, Paris and Mosport sites, approximately 6,000 native trees, shrubs and grasses were planted with Scouts Canada and local schools. Several of our sites have won numerous industry and community awards for property enhancement, progressive rehabilitation and community relations. Our Milton quarry proudly donated 1,000 acres of land to Conservation Halton as part of our rehabilitation program.
Biodiversity
Dufferin Aggregates runs an extensive biodiversity and restoration program across its quarries and pits in Canada. The Milton Quarry is a designated World Biosphere area and progressive rehabilitation has created new habitats for wildlife. More than one third of the area permitted for extraction has been restored to wetlands, meadows, lakes and wooded areas. Ongoing biodiversity monitoring shows that 120 bird species, 37 butterfly species and 6 amphibian species now use the rehabilitated area.
Biodiversity Enhancement
The Ecological Enhancement Plan at the Acton Quarry involves constructing six amphibian pools. The first pool was successfully constructed with 28 native plants now established and six amphibian and multiple insect species observed in the pond. We also run a seed collection program from our locations to enable replanting with species native to these locations.
